2011 Angler of the Year Rules

1. All fish entered must be caught in state or federal waters of California using methods deemed legal by the California Department of Fish and Game.

2. Photographic evidence of fish size (see measurement and photo guidelines) must be provided. For sturgeon, in the absence of a photo of the fish against a measuring device, a photo of the fish against an object of known size along with measurement that is witnessed and verified by another person in the pool will suffice.

3. Fish caught prior to January 1, 2011 are ineligible. Fish caught prior to payment of entry fees are also ineligible. Fish caught between January 1, 2011 and March 25, 2011 may be entered provided registration and payment is complete by April 1, 2011.

4. The pool covers the following ten species: sturgeon, salmon, halibut, rockfish, cabezon, lingcod, striped bass, white seabass, tuna, and yellowtail.

5. No out off season, oversize or undersize (fish larger than the legal limit or smaller then the legal limit per species) may be entered. All local water rules must be followed.

6. The biggest fish from each angler's top ten species will be used towards the anglers total points.

7. The anglers fishing for salmon and white seabass will be entered into a per species pool if the angler is registered for the side pools.

8. Entries must be posted within 2 weeks of being caught and photographed  (which ever comes first). No "hoarding"  of entries.

9. Anglers may also register for just the salmon and/or white seabass side pools. The side pools are winner take all. The prizes for each side pool are great items donated by our sponsors (details to be announced soon). The side pools follow all the same rules as the AOTY contest. Anglers can register for 1, 2 or all 3 contests and the same fish can be used across all contests.

Measurement and Photo Guidelines

1. Fish are measured for total length. Total length (TL) refers to the length from the tip of the snout (with mouth closed) to the tip of the longer lobe of the caudal fin, usually measured with the lobes compressed along the midline. It is a straight-line measure, not measured over the curve of the body. Fish should be measured to the nearest 1/4 inch.

2. When possible, 3 photographs should provided. Photo 1 should be a general on the water picture of the fish/angler. Photo 2 should be a picture of the entire fish on a measuring device. Photo 3 should be a close up showing the measurement of the total length of the fish.
